If you have a tooth that is too damaged or deteriorated for a filling, we may recommend a dental crown to preserve your remaining tooth structure. A dental crown is a “cap” used to entirely cover the damaged tooth up to the gums. Besides strengthening the tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. Crowns can also be placed on top of an implant for individual tooth replacement.
The Advanced Dental Arts team of cosmetic dentists and board-certified prosthodontist may recommend crown restorations to:
- Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
- Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
- Restore a fractured or broken tooth
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a tooth that has had a root canal treatment
A Natural Restoration
The majority of dental restorations we perform are crafted from a ceramic material that recreates the appearance of your natural tooth. Depending on your specific dental needs, our prosthodontist or dentists may decide that a high noble metal crown (gold or gold alloy) may be more appropriate for you.
A damaged tooth left untreated could eventually lead to more extensive procedures such as an extraction. At Advanced Dental Arts, a crown can help you be pain-free and restore your ability to bite, chew and talk normally.
