NYC COSMETIC WHITE FILLINGS
Cavities are caused by acid-causing bacteria, which can affect both the outer coating of your tooth (enamel), and the inner layer (dentin). When teeth decay, it is very important they be treated promptly to protect your tooth from further deterioration and damage, such as an abscess.
SIGNS OF TOOTH DECAY
Tooth decay can be painful and unpleasant. But in some cases, you may never even realize that it’s there. If you have any of the following symptoms you may be experiencing a cavity and need to schedule an exam with one of our Manhattan dentists:
- Toothache, discomfort, or sensitivity
- Mild or sharp pain when eating or drinking something sweet, hot or cold
- A visible hole in your enamel
- Brown, black or white staining on any surface of a tooth
- Rough edges that you can feel with your tongue
You may not be aware that a cavity is forming, which is why it is important to have regular checkups and cleanings, even when your mouth is feeling perfectly fine. At Advanced Dental Arts we use top of the line technology, such as digital x-rays and digital cavity detection tools, to pinpoint cavities in their earliest stages. The sooner they’re treated, the less invasive treatment will be.
DO I NEED A FILLING?
After one of our dentists performs a thorough exam and assesses your x-rays, they will discuss your treatment recommendations with you. If you require a filling, the dentist will use a local anesthetic to maximize your comfort, and numb the affected tooth. If your cavity is small enough, our WaterLase laser fillings may not even require your tooth to be numbed!
The area of decay is then gently removed from your tooth and filled with a tooth-colored material. A bright light cures the material permanently into place. The final result looks very much like a natural tooth and protects your enamel from further decay.
At Advanced Dental Arts we want to address your cavity before it becomes a bigger problem that will require a dental crown later on. If you believe you may have a cavity, or you are experiencing symptoms of tooth decay, call us right away. Let us take care of your smile!
